What makes us special?
A community of changemakers and forward thinkers, formed over the past 130+ years, we will help you find your place in the world. We are committed to having a positive impact on the planet we share and are in the top 10 universities in the UK for sustainability and ethical performance (2022 People & Planet University League).
The university builds on its founding spirit, keeping in mind its determination to overturn accepted wisdom, push further than before, and encourage everyone within the academic community to do the same. The community that has formed within the university’s walls and beyond, over the past 130+ years, has become a unique meeting place of minds, ideas and adventures.
Students at the university will be able to draw inspiration from the spectacular surroundings of the campus, soaked in maritime history and located on the banks of the River Thames. Just across the water, students will find one of the world’s most dynamic business centres, providing endless opportunities for professional growth and successful graduate employment. Elsewhere, in the Avery Hill and Medway Campuses, students will likewise feel embedded in their local landscapes, as well as have uniform access to state-of-the-art facilities and outstanding teaching expertise.

The university also offers ‘extended’ four-year degree courses aimed at students who do not meet the entry requirements of their chosen subject. These courses include a foundation ‘Year 0’ to bring students up to the required level of learning, before joining Year 1. The majority of courses offer the option to study part-time.
